Vizio HD vs. Panasonic 7UY ED
Does the mighty GotApex or anyone else have an opinion between the Vizio HD set that Costco was selling recently vs. the Panasonic 42PWD7UY ED set? I've heard a lot of people say the Panasonic ED set is better than a lot of the no-name HD sets that are out there. I'm trying to decide what to buy and I can get the Vizio 42" HD set for the $2,000 sale price they were running or the Pana 42" ED with a tilt wall mount for $1,895.
Any recommandations on these two or a better alternative (in the same price range) would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!! |

They have different strengths and weaknesses.
The Visio has higher resolution, so if you sit close to the set and view a lot of HD (higher resolution than DVD), than the extra resolution will help. If you watch DVD and below, the Panasonic is better. The Visio is brighter, noticably brighter. So, if your room has very high ambient light, it's a better choice. The Panasonic has noticably better (real world) contrast, and lower black levels. It also has better shadow detail because of it. The Panny has no digital input, but it can use optional blades for DVI and or HDMI ($140-150 each). The Visio does give you a digital input standard.

Thanks for the input Apex. It's for my living room which is pretty well lit as it has a lot of windows and my viewing distance is about 9'. I have DishNetwork which has a pretty sad HD offering at this time, so for a little while at least, I'm mostly SD & Dvd.
I guess the Panasonic will look better for what I'm watching now, but I should probably go with the Visio for the brighter display and more possibilities going forward. |
