Question turn my PC into a cable DVR?

I would love to be able to record the shows that I want and watch them at my own convenience, as well as back them up on DVD if possible. I have a WinTV card but it might not the best card to use for this purpose, since I want to be able to set a schedule like you can do with the cable DVR. What kind of video card should I get, and is the software that I would need to record be included with the card? Is there a fee to pay for the on screen tv guide thingy to synch up with the recorder?

Thanks in advance.

MS already has windows media center edition.
Plus this is open source so i doubt they'd sell out.

Ya, you're right. But a TV PVR, emu front end, DVD player and ripper, media player, mp3 player, web browser, and remote software control over the web-I can see why he called it mythical.

Oh man that's awesome. I don't know if I have the time to put something like that together but maybe sometime this summer. Thanks for the linkage.

I've got a Mythtv box running in my apartment now. It does the job and well. Also heard about a fairly good windows one called BeyondTV by someone called Snapstream? Might want to see if you can find any info on that one.

BTW, learning linux was half the fun in building the mythtv rig.
