question about the athena micro 6

i bought the athena micro 6 5.1 set a while back and i'm just now getting around to setting it up.

problem: for movies i have to turn the volume on the sub woofer WAY up to get a decent response, but then when i play music it's WAY to much base. for movies it's great, but when i play music it sounds terrible. not "too much base" terrible but more "cheap piece of crap" terrible. it sounds like the sub woofer is blown. . .but only for music.

any ideas?

I'm not sure what the exaxt source of your problem is, but....
That's a perpetual challenge that speaker manufacturers have to deal with. Music and movies are two totally different animals and more than often a speaker set can do one better than the other. That's why most speaker reviews have separate sections for "movies" and "music."

I own the set. I haven't had any issues with mine although I'm curious to try it out because I really don't play a whole lot of music with it.

Could it be a frequency issue? I don't really know but as soon as I get back to Boston where the set is, I will try both video and music signals and report back on what I find. I know that I have the sub set to the middle of the range on the dial and it's been fine for me.

I'm back and tested my equipment with the optical out of my cable box and the optical out from my PS2 with a Billy Joel CD. Bass response appears to be the same at the same volume level when I have the sub dialed in at 6.

Could it be the source or the receiver? Maybe the LFE isn't turned on? I don't really know what to tell you at this point.
