Although this is a question about a Playstation, it relates to DVD playback, so I presume this is the right forum. If not, feel free to move this post.

Anyways, I've been using my slim PS2 (Model 70011 -- I think) to play DVD's until I build my HTPC. Today I ran into an issue with the disc 1 of Law & Order: SVU. The first part of the disc played fine, but when I got to episode 4, it stalled about halfway through the episode, and then issued a "Disc Read Error." The disc itself is just fine, and I even tried with another friend's copy and got the same result.

Any idea why this would be happening? (The discs play fine in my laptop, and I've yet to see this "Disc read error" from any other disc I've tossed in my PS2).

I know some old-school PS2s (like mine) used to freak out when you'd try to play a DVD-Rom, but I thought that was fixed for the slims.
