Can I use an LCD TV such as Aquos as a monitor for my computer?

I am at a road where my monitor is dying and i need a new TV. If i buy 42" Aquos LCD tv, can i use it as my monitor?, I.E. i know i can connect it, but is there a downside to doing it

How close are you planning on sitting to it? (i.e. 1-2 feet like a normal monitor, or 10 feet like a normal TV)

Not sure about the brightness of it, but I'm guessing that the resolution might be a problem. If you can only do 19xx x 12xx on a 42" monitor, than it might look kinda crappy from 2 feet. If you want a really big monitor, then one of the 30" ones from Dell/Apple would probably work best.

That's what I have going in one of my conference rooms. Here is the page where I first talked about it:

I can take some more snapshots for you if you like now that it has a Mac and a PC connected to it.

it all depends on the resolution of the LCD TV.

usually 32"-42" LCD TVs have a native res at 1280x720 (to get 720p), but they can max out at 1366x768. i havent seen any LCD TV that does more than that. the dell 24"-32" LCD MONITORS can do a far higher resolution (obviously), but of course, comes at a much higher price.

what that all means is that you can use LCD TVs as a monitor, but, yep, youll have to sit back a bit (maybe 4-5 feet, depending on how close you like to work). resolution just isnt as good for WORKING (viewing , maybe)

Unless your video card can output at your TV's native resolution, you're not gonna get the digital-sharp resolution that you expect from a computer monitor. Even computer monitors get that "fuzzy" look when you don't match its native res.
