A call on Got|Apex to [H]elp [H]umanity

Dear Got|Apex,

There is a mighty battle afoot in the world of Distributed computing, a war against disease and a war to be first! At present Team [H]ardOCP is challenging to take the lead in this battle, we are closer and closer to being the #1 team in folding@home2 but we are lagging behind the current leaders, and need your support to help overcome them. Team OCAU from Australia is barely leading the way at the moment, this cannont continue... North America must stamp it's foot down, and show the world that we are the leaders in computing power!

Help [H]umanity, and strike a blow for America,Join us Now!!!

No, I don't think so. This is distributed computing, not get rich quick.

If we actually joined behind Hardocp, that would put them over the top, for sure.

maybe Steve or Kyle would be gracious enough (or find time) to stop by and ask our help?... It would mean a lot to everyone here if one of them did...

(i actually tried to run this stuff once - it lagged my system badly so i took it off.

Man, you make the title seem so noble, but it's all about [H] being the #1 team....would you be happy if we all did it but started a G|A team? it is for a good cause rite? the good cause being finding cures or something like that, NOT to show how strong American is.
Oh, and what if non-Americans join your team...what does that prove?

i'm still a bit confused... is this a race to find a cure for something? or just a race in general? what's with the "gotta be #1" mentality? strike a blow against who...and for what?

i would try and click on the links to find out more but i don't feel like it...

No matter what the unltimate goal is of this little contest, at least people are having fun in a productive way. Beats war games.

There is a whole lot of "hoo-ra" involved in all of this... is you saw the forums over at [H] and OCAU right now.. you'd notice all the friendly banter that's going on right now as we vie for #1. Yes... we're all being very competitive about this, and it's natural that we would like to see our own teams in the lead, we are loyal to our [H]ardware sites now aren't we? If G|A starts a team that will be great too, because at the end of the day, this is all in light of a very worthy cause. And yes, we do have non-americans on our team, I myself am from South Africa, but because of the strong team spirit and sense of comradery we have I feel a great affinity towards the team!!

I posted here, because I wasn't sure if G|A had their own team, and I know while back when we used to vote for our #1 recommended site.. there was always a good turnout for Got|Apex? even I voted as frequently as possible. I thought that there might be some people here who would like to join up with us...

How about if Asia Carerra made an appearance?

Yah! The folding@home client did have that effect, I haven't noticed that with folding@home2 though, I believe it's set at a lower priority. The United Devices client is set at idle priority, and runs very smoothly indeed (another good project).

Well it's not 'exactly' a race to find a cure, but the more productive we can be, the soonder the scientists will have they data they need. The #1 mentality serves to purposes: 1) if the cause is worthy (which it is), then we wanna do it as best as we possibly can 2) it's creates competition, and that competition pushes teams to up their production, and ultimately serves to speed up the rate at which data is collected for the project.

Once you get into it, you really get hooked, and like I've said here today.. there is a great sense of comradery, which makes the project all the more rewarding.

Ok... I'll bite. What is everyone talking about?

Sounds like we install a program on our comp. for some sort of competition. The details... I'm drawing a blank.

Hi,

You simply install the f@h2 program on your computer, it then uses the spare CPU cycles (cycles that your CPU isn't using at any point in time) to calculate molecular structures of proteins. This data is then uploaded to stanford once complete, and a new packet downloaded, and worked upon etc. (the packet size are very small, so there are now bandwidth issues)

the gory details:

1) head over to folding.stanford.edu and download the client version that corresponds to your OS, you will most likely notice that there is a console version, and a graphical version... (the graphical version is for if you'd like a nice screensaver type interface, the console is just a DOS window, the program normally runs faster under the console version, but will run at the same speed for both when they are minimized).

2) if you choose the console version, you will need to start it with the command line switch -config when you run it for the first time. Simply enter a username of you choice, and under the team number put: 33

It's as easy as that.... if you have any questions, feel free to post them here, or PM me.

There's a good FAQ on the whole program, and project over at http://hardfolding.com/foldingv2_faqs.htm

And this most definately belongs in the MLM, Referrals, and Spam Forum. These are the reasons why

1. It is not a "Call to Humanity" it is a stupid competition between Kyle and OCAU
2. If the G|A forum members want to join Folding at Home they can start their own team.
3. I don't like Kyle Bennet

1. It's for a humanitarian cause, and if competition helps further that, then so be it. Participation in the projects is initiated, run and promoted by the forum members themselves.
2. G|A most certainly can start their own team. I was only asking if anyone wanted to help us.
3. LP has a great sense of humor.
4. Kyle ownz j00!!!

don't you go starting no war now, bubba.

I don't believe it belongs in those forums because

1) it doesn't ask for money
2) it doesn't promise to make you money
3) at no point does my penis get larger through 7 easy steps

Ergo, it's not spam.

At other forums a post like this would be deleted outright. Fortunately this is Got|Apex forums.

What is to stop others from other forums from doing the same? Of course no one from PCA would do such a thing cause they know better.

I wonder if the words in this post have anything to do with the post itself because damn it totally makes no sense and means nothing.
