1 full year service is included.

When it expires, you can renew for 1 month, 2 month or 1 year service. It keeps track of your time left right on the phone.
It is for people that don't want to yack-iti-yack.
If you want to make an occasional quick call, like me, this is a cheap way to do it. We use it to check in or let the kids know they can get a hold of us if they need to while we are out. A few 1 minute calls per week. We limit it to 1 minute calls always.

It turns out to be cheaper than a pager.
Make sure you get the extra 60 minutes for being refered by someone and register online for extra minutes.

Actually, for the casual user, this is a hot deal.

If I recall, TRACFONE's per minute rate is 60 cents and you have to renew every month.
Virgin has a much better rate at 25 cents per minute and you only have to renew $20 every three months.

That is incorrect about the month-to-month activation. This phone deal comes with 1-year activation and minutes are much cheaper than in the past. With this phone you can buy 60 minutes for $17.99 (that's the 30 minute price plus you get a 30 minutes bonus with this phone!)
