Awesome Wedding photography for $500!

Actually, heh, not yet. Don't yell at me too much for posting this as I'm more feeling out the market and it WILL be a deal, considering we just priced photographers out at 2300$ a pop.

If you paid for a photographer and got, at the end, a finished 'dvd' of the wedding for 500$ (3 total, couple, and both parents), with all prints ordered 'extra', would you consider that a deal (*this would apply to those that actually know how much a photographer costs for a wedding*)

Just wondering.

My friend got married back in August. His photographer did an awsome job. Everything was fabulous. They got a a really nice frame with 3 black and white photos as an engagement set and he did great. He took I think about 500 pictures from the wedding and reception. They also got a DVD with music and blah blah blah. I think all in all they choose about 150 pictures and it was well over 1000 bucks. But hell they're wedding was 50G's so whats another G.

there's a lot to ask here.

how do you know it's "excellent" wedding photography?
what is the DVD of? images? or like some slideshow?
how much "extra" are the prints that you'd like to order? (and ultimately, WHERE are they getting it printed? at a professional lab? or some mini-lab at the local walmart?)

without saying too much, if you're local (southern cal) and need some real referrals or want to know more about wedding photog, shoot me a private msg.

Hopefully your only getting married once.

Check references, I've heard too many horror stories.

Saving a few bucks isn't worth it when your wife is disappointed in the poor quality photos.

Make sure you get EVERYTHING in writing. Make sure that the negatives are yours also.

Digital is nice but people still want that album to hold and look at.

Most of it was from the reception. There were 350+ people at the reception. It was a huge. Quite beautiful. I was the best man and it was interesting standing up and giving the speech. The meals were around 90 bucks a piece. But both familes are fiarly rich. Her dad runs a bunch of companies, he just bought 3 more, so all in all they can afford it. Each parent of both of them are divorced and remarried so it was pretty easy.

Actually-

I used to do wedding work. Was at a lab and was able to do all my work custom and at a reduced rate- everyone profitted. I have refused to shoot weddings but have done, in a pinch, a few for people. Comparing my work to others I'd say I'm about 80%-90% of the top.

I also priced and inspected all the wedding photographres for a number of friends- looked their portfolios over and gave my recommendation.... the one they went with (my preference) was about 2300$.

Yep DVDs would be just a slideshow, and the final prints would be prolab.

Thanks for the feedback!
