How cheap are you looking on those Ethernet cards?
I've got a large quantity of Hewlett Packard/Intel Etherexpress Pro 10/100 Management (with WOL!) adapters that I wouldn't mind putting up for sale. These came out of HP Vectra and Kayak machines. P/N: 5064-7434 Or search on yahoo for pila8460 they retail for about $70, the lowest I've seen them is for $37 (for pulls). I'd let them go for $30 shipped with WOL cable, cheaper in quantity. Might even consider trades. |

Yes, you can find cheapo ones anywhere for $20 or less. And they retail for that price. Take a look at what I'm offering, Management adapters with WOL.
How many cheapo adapters have you seen that come with WOL? Most 3coms and netgears don't even have them. Yes, go checkout pricewatch.com for prices on specific stuff: $37 for pulls and $70 for retail boxes. Just like I said. Take a look and see and report back on this model, reron. |

at PC CLub I can pick up a SMC 10/100 PCI adapter for 14.99 and it comes with a 10ft cat ethernet cable, WOL capability and the little dinky connector. I use it, it works great, no frills. A LAN hub? if you're talking 24 users or less any ol hub will due, but I highly recommend switches, they work great and offer better performance!

Let's see...
SMC's online store sells the SMC9432TX EtherPower II 10/100 for $79 ($85 if you want the cable with it). Pricewatch shows this model to be $36 (lowest price). So if this is comparable model, yeah, I think my price is reasonable. Now if you want to compare the cheaper model, the SMC1211TX EZ Card 10/100, which they list for $30 (much cheaper elsewhere including sams, pricewatch, etc) is more comparable to the Netgears and other cheap cards out there. Which again, is comparing different class models (it is, as you say, no frills). LAN Hubs: I would mostly agree with your statement, but I'd say 16 users or less. And switches are faster and though a bit more expensive in cost per port, they offer superior return on investment. |

You are *so* right! =8-)
He e-mailed me that he was interested, then never got back to me. Oh, BTW, someone else in the for sale/trade forum had these identical adapters, also asking $30 shipped. So I really don't think I'm too far off. If they want cheaper ones, I've got some left over netgear ones for $20 shipped. |
