Back in December I got an email from buy.com telling me I had a $100 GC from e-trade available. When I went to use it it bounced with a message saying it had not been "activated" and to call customer service.

I did, and eventually got another email with a new coupon code. The same thing happened.

I had gotten and used an e-trade gc a year ago. Later, I opened a different account (joint instead of custodial) and thought I was supposed to get a 2nd one. I never did. So while it did take me by surprise, the recent email didn't seem erroneous.

I dashed off another email to customer service yesterday, and lo and behold I got a coherent response. She said there was a limit of one per household, and referenced the different certificate I cashed a year ago.

I am reasonably certain that when I opened my most recent e-trade account the offer said "limit one offer per account type". It now says "limit one per person".

I feel I'm entitled to the certificate, but certain I'll never get it through normal channels, so I'm interested in guerilla tactics to redeem it. I'm in the dark on how these things work, but think it may be possible to get it by setting up a new account and redeeming it there. If anyone knows, and how to best go about doing that, I'd be appreciative.

Your post is not a "Need Deals" posting. You already have the deal, you just can't use it!
