Question

I have two laptops in my house and only one cable modem. Do I need to buy another cable modem or is there a way I can run both computers off of one? And is there a wireless way to do this, and how much would it cost? P.S. thanx a lot for the info in advance. Deals on equipment would also be appreciated.

Thumbs up

yep i agree with hapoo..I just got a cable modem for my roommates and I. The thing works great. That is the way to go for more than one computer on a cable modem!

Wink thanx for the info

Thanx for the info. I want to make it so that I can access the cable connection wirelessly, but am not sure what I should use. Apex mentioned what he uses but I can't find wireless cards for anywhere near that cheap. The thing is i don't want the computers to have to be near eachother in the house, so i think i need a wireless setup to keep from having to run wires all over the place. Any sugestions or deals would be very appreciated.

D-Link has what you need -

http://www.cdw.com/shop/products/default.asp?EDC=264320

You can find it cheaper than CDW, but they have a good description, and d-link's site seems to be down right now.

Wireless isn't as cheap as traditional wired - you'll pay for the technology. The nice thing about this particular access point is that you can use CAT5 where it's logical, and use wireless only on the machines that you have to. This saves you from buying a wireless card for every machine.
