REI or any place that sells jackets
Any nice promos going on for stores that sell winter jackets? I've checked out REI.com and REI-outlet.com already.

GoreTex works...basically, anything with a waterproof shell & some type of insulating lining.
Looking to spend ~100....I'm a college student! |

The cheapest I have ever found has been at Pacific Treking (www.pactrek.com). All their prices are in CAD making things even cheaper, but their shipping costs are up there. I must say that I have never ordered from them before, so can't place a "yay" or "nay" on their products or service.
I personally am more concerned with funtionality and durability for backpacking, and prefer to go with the high end outerwear (Arc'teryx, Marmot, etc.). If that's what you're looking for, you'll be hard pressed to find any gortex, even just a shell with no insulating layer, for $100. You'll find other waterproofs, but not gortex. Places to try would be: www.sierratradingpost.com (surplus and blemished items) www.campmor.com www.mec.ca (CAD) www.mgear.com www.overstock.com (yes, they sell some decent outerwear) Now isn't exactly the best time to be shopping for outerwear if you're looking for a deal. Late spring and early summer when retailers are clearing out old and discontinued styles is when you can usually find the best deals. Mid to late summer is even better if you fit an odd size like XS or XL, which is what's usually left from the original clearance sales. |
