from the european travel advice i've read (unfortunately, i have no personal experience to draw from ), they recommend that you figure out how much you're really going to travel and buy a more limited pass that will accomodate your travel needs. for example, a Euro Youthpass (for anyone under 26) will allow travel in France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and Switzerland. Associate countries: Austria & Hungary, Benelux (Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg), Greece, Portugal. a pass that will allow you to travel for 15 days in 2 months will cost around $500. this would allow you to travel one out of every four days, and if you're spending more time on the train than that, you're probably hardly going to have time to enjoy your vacation. the other option is to figure out exactly where you're going to go and buy just passes to take you between those destinations. i guess it just depends on what exactly you had planned and how many places you're going (and how far apart those places are). just look at all your options (instead of just focusing on the unlimited pass), if you haven't already. |
