Any deals on Quicken Basic/Deluxe? What's the Difference, anyway?
Hi,
I'm looking for a legit copy of Quicken Basic or Deluxe. I've seen Quicken Basic for $30 and Deluxe for $60. Surely, someone can ferret out a better deal for me than that. Also, what's the difference between Quicken|Basic and Quicken|Deluxe, anyway (the Intuit website doesn't even mention Quicken Basic)? Near as I can figure it, the Deluxe version allows you to download/sync records from the banks (which I've never done). Is this a free service? -g |

The difference between Quicken Basic and Deluxe is primarily in the financial planning features. Deluxe has all kinds of applets that help you plan and manage your 401(k) and IRAs as well as your investment portfolio.
I think both Basic and Deluxe offer the capabilities of downloading data from your bank. Intuit's web site makes it look like there is not a basic version for 2003, but CompUSA has it on their site for $29.95 (list price). I got a deal on Quicken Deluxe 2002 at Costco earlier this year. I never use the extended features, so if I were buying the software now, I'd go for Basic-- which is what I've been using since the mid-1990s. As for deals, Intuit always has a $10 (I think) rebate for previous Quicken users. I have not seen any deals for the 2003 version yet, beyond the rebate. |
