Um, a laptop hard drive. 20GB or more.

Yeah after this: http://www.gotapex.com/forums/showth...threadid=67397 (Laptop woes)

I'm going to need a new one, so a cheap one would be sweet.

Lots of them on FleaBay...lots of people upgrading their laptop drives now that the 7200RPM drives are becoming popular. Couldn't tell you what brands to stay away from, however.

Newegg usually has great prices on laptop hard drives, or watch for a 20% off from Dell.

Hitachi (formerly IBM's drive division) makes great drives... look for at least a 5400RPM, and go for the 7200 if you have the cash - it does improve the speed of your machine.

Isnt physical size a concern? Or are they all the same size today?
Don't 7200 RPM drives run hotter? With the marginal cooling in some laptops, couldn't this be a factor?

They're pretty much all the same size these days.

As far as heat, I know they had some problems with the earlier 5400s (maybe about 9-12 months ago), but I believe that has been cleared up.

I have to imagine that the faster they're spinning the more heat they're throwing off, but I honestly have no idea if or how much it might affect the laptop. I swapped my 4200 for a 5400 about 6 months ago, and there was a noticable speed difference. Now I'm waiting for my 7200 to come in...
