Motorcycling Gear
I got the itch this week and bought an old Honda Sabre 750. I'm new to riding but i've taken the MSF-beginner's course a 18 months ago. I'll be taking the class again just as a refresher but i'm looking for equipment. I need everything, Helmet, jacket, gloves, boots, maybe even pants or one piece suit. Any good places to shop, brands to look for that are a good value?
How much am i willing to spend? umm, dont really kno, this could add up to alot really quickly Whats important to me? Safety, well constructed gear that will last a few seasons. Comfort, Costs ... in that order. any experiences with gear or specific brands? Thanks to all.,..

Helmet - After hearing what you had to say about your gear I would suggest you get either an Arai (RX7-RR4), Shoei (RF-1000 or X11), or the KBC (Racer 1). The Arai and Shoei are definately on the expensive side. These two helmets have different shapes. The Arai is an oval shape and the Shoei is rounder. I personally bought the KBC Racer 1. This helmet fit me the best, and it is incredibly comfortable. The vents are pretty quiet, and it is made well. Check out www.helmetharbor.com for great prices.
Jacket, pants, boots and gloves - go to your local shops and try on the gear. See what fit you. And then check out ebay and craigslist.com . I got my pants and jacket this way and I saved tons of $ by buying from guys that had to get rid of their bikes because of their wives. Gloves I got at my local shop for a decent price. I have been more impressed with First Gear over Joe Rocket. My friends that bought JR have had to replace their gear because it just started to fall apart after a year or two, while my FG is doing great. If you can afford leathers from a good brand go for it. I hope that this helps. Let me know if you have any questions, or if you are looking for a Red, White, and Black KBC Racer 1 (men's large) with matching leather gloves (medium) in perfect condition. (I just sold my bike so I could fix my car, and I won't be able to replace it until next season.) |

Arai and Shoei have a reputation for quality. They pride themselves on being the best. This is true in comfort and safety. KBC is just starting to jump into the high end market (racer 1) so they are forced to put out a great product at a lower price so they can compete. The only complaint for this helmet is that it is a little bit heavier then the $500 Arai, but then again this is 1/2 the price. HJC and Bell are decent helmets. These helmets commonly have complaints like it is too heavy, too big, noisy, not enough ventalation, etc.
Here is a decent discussion that you might want to check out. http://www.sportriders.com/forums/me...&threadid=3823 |
