My cable tv just hit $50 a month for just expanded basic. I checked out Directv and Dish, the savings to use them is not worth switching, the cheaper package doesn't include MSNBC (important to me). All I want is local tv, Nick for my kids and MSNBC for me. Are there decent options that anyone may know about for under $30 a month? I thought I heard there is a company that lets you choose channels so the whole lineup is not forced upon the user but I don't think that in in the NJ area, or is it?

So you're the one who watches MSNBC.

I think that service that offers a limited amount of channels for cheap doesn't include MSNBC. It has the 10 most popular channels, and I don't believe MSNBC is in that group.

Dish Network used to offer 10 channels for $15 per month, and you got to pick the channels. Unfortunately, that's no longer available.

We also faced the same exact quandry a few years ago. We wanted Nick for the kids and Fox News for me. We ended up learning to live without them.

If more people quit their cable service, they would have to lower their fees. But most people are addicted to it, so they won't.
