Dell Server deal with a XEON
I am looking for a great / good deal on a Dell 1650 with the Xeon chip.
I am really wanting a dual XIon so the drive deals are cool but getting a pair Cheap would with extra ram would be the best. They discontinued the 1650 - it's now the 1750. Do you need a SERVER, or just a dual Xeon machine? The Precision 450 workstation is also dual Xeon capable & sometimes has better deals than the server line...

Then I'd recommend the Dell Precision 450 - it's a graphics workstsion, and much more suited to video work. The 1600SC is a server, and only has an 8MB video card & no AGP slot - good for heavy duty processing, but crap for video.
I'd also recommend that unless you have money to burn, you stay on the lower end of the processor speed spectrum... it's a $1600 difference between the dual 2.4GHz & dual 3.06GHz. |

Good call on the Specs although it is mainly for the encoding as the Dell Dim 8300, 1gig, P4 3.0 HT is the Desktop Video Editor so the Onboard vid is fine as it will never see much. As a Linux slave it may never even see a GUI.
What I need is a deal .. the 1600s were stupid cheap a while back but I cash was tight and I haven't seen ANY Dell server deals on GotApex in months  and I was hoping to not miss one. Thanks Pyro |

There are some 15% off coupons for PowerEdge servers in the Dell coupon post - they expire today though, so you might want to jump on them!
Also, to keep costs lower you might just buy a machine with a single processor & then upgrade to dual later when the prices drop... |
