I am finally ready to buy that laptop. Which is a better deal for someone who will never play 3d games and just wants a solid lappy for school - word processing, internet, email, and dvd watching?

I'd say the 5150 just for longer battery life & weight - quite a bit lighter than the 8600. You might take a peek at the Latitude D800, too.

YES you can extend the warranty after the fact, but I'm pretty sure it's more expensive that way.
