Question

I want to add USB ports to the front of my case. I have an ATX motherbaord, so I'll need to plug into an external USB port and run a cable back into the case, to the front ports. A powered hub would be nice, but I'll settle for passive. Anyone know a company that offers these? Thanks.

Some people drill small holes in the front of their case and then use "rat tail" files to widen the hole into rectangular shape to mount the USB connectors yanked off of one of those things that mount in the rear slots.

Is that what you wanted to do to get ports in the front of your case? This would let you put them wherever you wanted.

There's another type that fits into a drive bay. It needs a 3.5" drive bezel with opening. This is the type of opening used for Syquest 270 or Jaz drives. Without the bezel, it runs $39.95 + S/H which is the lowest price I found. While it could be operated without a bezel, the lack of one will upset the airflow path in your case...

If cost is a factor, just velcro one of those $19.95 4-port USB hubs on the side of the case near the front. Besides a separate external hub is more practical and can be moved to another machine/laptop as needed.
