Shopping at Amazon?

Just a friendly reminder.
For those planning to shop at Amazon or any other major retail store for the holiday season. If you already know where you will be shopping, always check on eBay for discounted gift certificates first. I am planning to buy an iPod next week from amazon (they had the cheapest price for a major internet retailer). Checked on eBay and found a $200 Amazon gift certificate for $184. That gave me an extra $16 off my purchase.

I know there are many frugal shoppers out there that know many more tricks of the trade for online deal hunting, but for not so savvy shoppers like me, this is a good place to start.

Thanks for the reminder. It's easy to forget our typical tricks when it comes to Christmas buying.

Along the same lines, make sure you sign up for your free Amazon Prime 'demo'. You can cancel in a month to avoid the $79 charge, but during the month you get free 2 day shipping or discounted next day shipping on all Amazon purchases.

To see if you can get the free month, go to 'your account' in amazon, then click on 'Manage your Amazon Prime membership'. If it's still available, you should have link to sign up for a free month. You might have to 'click here to sign up' to see the offer.

I already enjoyed my free trial membership. I LOVED getting free 2-day shipping!!

FYI: In case you forget to cancel in time and they accidently charge you $79 for the annual membership fee (happened to me), they will refund the whole amount upon cancellation as long as you didn't use the prime benefits after you were charged.

Dang! No free trial offer for me. Seems like I might have used it a year or so ago though.

Thanks for the information. Did you actually make the purchase and receive the discount?

you can do that with ANY store. and amazon is usually a bit higher price than other stores.

some of the retail store gc's (like sears, or macy's etc) have better discounts going the gc route on ebay.
