Softening a Soft Pretzel?

Soft Pretzels are big in the Philly area. I bought three fresh ones on Wednesday. I left the two I hadn't eaten in the paper bag on my kitchen counter. I ate one of the remaining ones yeaterday.

Well, by today, the last one is rock hard, so I nuked it figuring it would soften it. It didn't work at all.

Is there a secret to softening them?

wet it and nuke it?

its stale bread. I dont think you can unstale bread, just make it more tolerable...like toasting it.

I put a tiny plate of drinking water (like a teacup saucer) under the bread with the bread on the edges of the plate so that it doesn't actually touch the water.

The steam usually seems to take care of the bread fairly well. But if the water touches the bread, it'll probably just make for a soggy warm mush, which might be the start of a decent porridge but not much else.

it is better to place hot water in the microwave either in a cup or in a small dish. the microwave for about 15 seconds or so...

sometimes if you place it in a bag with a slice or two of bread it will soften up.

Step 1: Get in you car.
Step 2: Turn key.
Step 3: Drive to WaWa.
Step 4: Walk to counter.
Step 5: Ask for fresh pretzels.
Step 6: Pay for said pretzels.
Step 7: Mustardize one.
Step 8: Drive home while enjoying your mustardized pretzel.
Step 9: Throw out rock hard old pretzel and enjoy fresh ones.

OR - Wrap it in a damp/wet paper towel and nuke it for 30 seconds. Typically enough to bring it back from the dead.

Damn, could I go for a soft pretzel right now.

.

I tried dampening it, but it didn't work. So I soaked it, and got a semi-soft pretzel.

Thanks

No problem. The benefits of being a Philly native. Albeit one who moved out of the area a long time ago. (Weird to think we sold our house there in 1998.)

stop dipping your pretzel in the wrong cheese and it wont get so hard

many of the above should work
otherwise a varation is shawnlee siad <only a varation>
place a smalle bit of water in a tea cup
heat the water for about two min
then place a paper towel over the tea cup and the pretzle on top and nuke it for about 15 seconds

As oxymoronish as it sounds, methinks the thread title should be "Softening a Hard Soft Pretzel". It wouldn't need softening if it was still soft.
