IKEA kitchen/bathroom cabinets
Anyone had experience with these? I hear that they are very good for the price and have a lot of options. Not real wood but a very good alternative.
Thanks all. |

food for thought here. how long you going to stay at your place ?
as a contractor i say dont buy cheap cabinets if you have kids. there a reason they are cheap. the mounting handles are the same on good as cheap cabnets for the most part. but the materal the cabinets frames are made of is what holds it all together. remember a good solid wood frame you can down the road will save a ton. you can reface a solid wood cabinet, remount new cabinet door ,remove / strip the stain and restain so not be out dated . on cheap cabinets for the most part you be tearing out whats left of them and starting all over again at a higher expense. its pay now or pay a lot more later . price out solid cabinets from a true kitchen shop .if your going to do the work you maybe suprized as they really may not cost what you think . a good national company is ASI cabinet company .and most cabinet companys have a high ,middle ,low line of cabinet .you dont need to buy particle wood. to save money . i also have a company come in a draw out your kitchen you be suprized how this may save you getting the right sizes and type to fit your needs !

heh, good pointers! thank you, mr R! i was almost gonna have my kitchen redone also, but expenses got out of hand fast recently, so its in the back burner for now. ill be in this house for several years before i move out, so im taking my time. the kitchen is functional, but could use a good remodel. those tips you wrote down im keeping in mind.

Maybe 2 years. I have already doubled what I paid for the house. I feel in 2 more years I will get another $20K or so by "prettying" up the kitchen will help.

if two years i go cheaply on the kitchen . but i forgot to say keep inmind if you have to assemble the cabinets add in your time to do so .when pricing them out .figure 1/2 to 1 1/2 hour per to assemble each unit before you can hang them .

I've liked the Ikea kitchen layouts I've seen. I was at the store in Minneapolis and they had 10 or 12 kitchens laid out with their cabinetry.
I don't think you can go wrong as far as the price/timeline/eye candy appeal they'll give you. They also have a Kitchen design program which is sort of Visio-ish that includes their cabinets so you can lay out your current kitchen to see how it'd look with their products. |
