Tahoe planning help?

I'm going off to Tahoe in a month or so with gf, best buddy, and his wife. Wondering where to stay, what to do, places to go type of thing.

We're planning on just doing a day hike, but not sure which hikes are worth it. I think we're all in decent shape, so we can handle tougher trails, if need be...as long as it's worth it.

besides that, what else is there to do there, and what's worth it?

I'd suggest going and renting a boat. Waterskiing is fun and so is fishing. Big lake trout there.

lake tahoe is just about as nice as they come. I'd suggest staying at a casino if they're cheap

i don't gamble but it's still kinda fun.

errr...i don't know actually...i've never actually been to tahoe when it wasn't snow season =)

lots of things to do when it's snowing =) great places to sled. hrmm...i suppose now, sledding down rocks wouldn't be too productive.

There is a really cool hemp shop there with tons of hemp products...i like going there and getting stuff. (fyi HEMP IS NOT MJ...they are not synonymous with each other)

i bet there are some nice trails around...i've jsut never seen them because they were prolly covered with snow =)

the casinos are always fun, jay leno was there at harrah(sp?), i didn't see him, but i'm sure there will be some sort of show there. you should hit up bills casino...really small funky place, but they give you free drinks there...even when you're not playing!! well..they gave me free drinks =) hahah

do you mountain bike? I think they run the lifts in the "off season" where you can go up with your bike and ride down on the different trails.

We never made it up there to stay or vacation - when we did go it was up and over. Or we stayed in Fallon with Donnie's parents and drove to where we were headed.

Mileage (one-way): 1.7 miles to Floating Isle, 2½ miles to Cathedral, 5 miles to Tallac
Providing a spectacular view of Fallen Leaf Lake, Lake Tahoe and Desolation Wilderness, this strenuous hike is well worth the effort. The first part of the trail to Floating Island and Cathedral lakes is moderate and can be enjoyed by the novice hiker. Beyond Cathedral Lake, the trail becomes steep and strenuous as it continues up the front face of Mt. Tallac. The trailhead is located approximately 3½ miles north of South Lake Tahoe on Highway 89. Look for the Mt. Tallac Trailhead sign directly across from the entrance to Baldwin Beach and turn left down the dirt road. Continue to the trailhead parking. Weather conditions can change rapidly in the Sierra mountains; bring a jacket, carry lots of water and allow plenty of time for your trip. A wilderness permit is required.
