Black Friday anyone?

Seems like there isn't much of a buzz even here on G|A, home of the best deals on the Intarweb. I am going to try and stimulate the economy on Friday but I'm not seeing very many good deals. Is anyone excited about BF this year?

By the way, I hope you all have a great Thanksgiving. Despite the economy, if we have family and friends we are rich.

Back at you, man. And to everyone else as well.

I'm going to be hoping to land a laptop at BB. I dread the camping in line.
This will be my first every BF involvement. Probably last.

A link I found on another site I frequent:

http://www.blackfriday.info/sales/

I haven't looked yet. As much as stores are cutting prices, I wonder how much of a deal they can actually offer on Friday. I just read an article that says things are so bad stores have already started moving holiday orders placed months ago to discounters like Big Lots and Overstock, without even going onto shelves.

For the first time in a very long time, I just don't care. I will gladly pay a few more bucks to not be out on Black Friday. I plan to go up to some secluded place in the mountains.

I too don't care, there really hasn't been anything that has interested me in the last four years or so...... boring. I'd rather sleep

we're going to buy some furniture at some local shops. It's not for the sales though it's the first time wife and I have had a day when we can go.

Just got back from Black Friday. My wife wanted to go to the outlets. My gawd the outlets are packed 11:30pm. The line for the Coach outlet was 500 people deep and was still that long when we left at 2am. A lot of the stores are busy and have to limit the amount of people that go in or else it becomes a fire hazard. Ugh.

Well I did BF this morning...

Got up at 4:00 a.m. and was out the door by 4:30...

First stop (5:00 a.m.) Meijers... Bought 2 Black and Decker 18V Drill Drivers for $39.99 each, 2 7" Digital Picture Frames for $29.99 each, and a 1.5" Digital picture keychain for $9.99
(That store had a mad dash at 5:00 a.m. when folks were rippin' and tearin' at the wrapped pallets of stuff...)

Second (and last) stop... Frys.

Picked up a Samsung 1TB SATA hard drive for $99 and a Corsair 32GB flash drive for $19.99 (after a $50 mail in rebate...in store price was $69.99)

Pretty much the deals weren't quite as enticing as in previous years, but I must say, Meijers had a 42" Plasma TV for $499 and Fry's had a $299 laptop and some 32" and 37" TVs that were going like hotcakes. Fortunately, I didn't have to dive into that mess of folks to try to get one. I'll just hold off for now and those TVs will probably be around those prices within the next year or so.

Nice deal on the flash drive. I'm thinking I'll stick with my 8GB one long enough to skip 16GB and jump to 32GB when the price gets good enough ($20 would be good enough).

the deals are weak this year, and I think there will be better price cuts in December.

And watch out for the mail in rebate deals. One of the larger rebate companies is apparently having cashflow issues.

Sat in front of Office Depot from 11:00 till open, first in line. By the time they handed out tickets, there were over a hundred fifty. Got an HP Laptop and some blank dvd. Forgot all about the carrying case and missed the few that they had. Later, took a run to Staples and got a couple of Motorola Bluetooths. Probably not doing BF again, unless some absolutely amazing deal. That waiting was BORING!!!!

So when is this Black Friday? Let us all bow down to the Capitalist god? Is this some sort of Satanist holiday?

I haven't even had Thanksgiving yet. I was one of those sad people who had to work so that everybody could get all of their cranberries and stuffing and try to defrost at turkey in three hours. Yeah, I work in retail grocery. No family in town and they made me an offer I could not refuse in terms of pay so I worked there from 10am to 7pm and was back again on Friday at 5:00 am. No Black Friday for me. Not that I would have gone out in that mess anyways. Saved lots of money two ways- earned more than if I was off and didn't spend a dime! OK- well I did spend a bit on my computer last week. Which was another reason to want the Holiday Pay.

I'll be out this week when things calm down a bit. Taking a full week's vacation.

I don't know, zippy, I'm with you there for the most part. This year is the first BF that I've involved myself in. But if you are in the market for certain items and you are lucky enough to be at the head, or near the head, of the line, the amount you can save is awesome.

So I went tonight to Fry's in SD and there was a 5 minute wait to get into the parking lot. People were driving like idiots in and out of the place and I was getting pretty stressed out being there. Once inside, it was a madhouse of people following no discernible path. I had a couple of mildly good deals, but because of all the ruckus I dropped my stuff and walked out. I couldn't take the madness.

Got a bunch of cheap DVD's at Circuit City that I can give out as gifts. Other than that, I think I'll do all my Christmas shopping online from now on.

I don't like crowds. Plus, I was up in MA on Friday visiting the folks for Turkey Day, and anything I'd buy I'd have to drive down here and carry home on the subway at 1 in the morning. Manhattan is basically a ginormous department store anyway, so I shouldn't have a problem finding gifts at my leisure.
