Question Flying to Tokyo: AA vs. JAL

I'm planning a trip to Tokyo and for about the same price I can fly non-stop through American Airlines or make 1 3-hour stop through Japan Airlines. I heard JAL is better but is it worth it to make that stop?

Thanks in advance!!

coach or business/first class? i think JAL is much more likely to have better service in the premium classes than the domestic airlines.

are frequent miles a consideration? you'll rack up a ton and if you go with JAL, it's unlikely you'll be able to burn them unless you use a partner airline or keep going to japan.

It will be coach. I'm a FF of AA and actually have enough miles to fly AA for free (still need to pay for hubby's ticket) but I don't mind saving the miles I have now for the future. JAL is a partner of AA so the miles I accumulate can go toward my AA account.

I've flown to Japan on JAL and United - coach both times (both were nonstop from Chicago to Narita). I'd say that JAL had a definite edge on service over United.

don't expect amazing service on any flight. if it's the same money, just take the easiest flight and concentrate on having a good time in Japan.

have fun and show us pics when you return.
