Experience with Amazon and UPS
Just had to share my story.
![]() A couple weeks ago I ordered a Wacom tablet from Amazon and did the super saver shipping. Well the item came quickly but raised concerns. I just happened to be home and opened the door just as UPS walked up. The guy handed me the package and just walked away. WTF! No signature? What if I wasn't home? He would have left the thing at my door? Might have gotten stolen. And the box was crushed. Well if any of you know what a Wacom is, you know that they are pretty expensive. Well to make a long story short, the tablet wasn't damaged but I emailed Amazon to express my concerns and disappointment in the handling of the package. Amazon apologized and gave me a credit of 20% on the purchase. Awesome, that is a substantial savings on the tablet. They really are about customer satisfaction. I also phoned UPS and had them require signatures for all packages delivered to my address. So that takes care of that. I'm stoked. ![]()

FREE "super saving shipping" doesn't require a signature (which works for some of us, and not for others...)
Honestly, I like it as it is... I trust my neighbors not to mess with my stuff on the doorstep. ![]()

Funny, I'm the opposite. I'm pretty pissed if they don't just leave the package. I'm rarely home when they come by, so I have to go 1/2 hour out of my way to get the package if they don't leave it.
I figure they're accepting responsibility for leaving it anyway, so if it gets stolen someone will make it right (I'm sure Amazon will). |

Amazon is probably one of the top big companies that I enjoy doing business with. They are very straight forward and honest and they work their hardest to make it right or make you happy. I think they will succeed for a very long time.
Glad your tablet was ok and that you are all set going forwards. I usually don't expect things to go perfectly every time, but if i can make it so that things will go as I expect moving forward, that's the best a company can do. That 20% discount is definitely a nice bonus! ![]()

i have no problems here at my house but in a apartment building i can see this being a big problem. for Fed-X i have to sign after they had to pay out on a monitor i order came crushed and was just set on my front porch. like no big thing the whole corner of the box was caved in like the truck trip over and it went flying out the back door.it was not mistake-able. the unit in the box had to be damaged. the driver never made a note of it. but they covered it and were not happy about it at all as this was not a normal computer monitor it was a special monitor used for security. it cost them like $800 for a 17 inch CRT monitor.less then 2 years ago.

If in an apartment, I'd make special provisions to have the package dropped off at the main office (if it were on site...)
Most shippers will acknowledge this. |

Actually this is pretty much standard for all UPS ground packages to a residential address. They all fall under what I think it called "driver release". Business addresses and any overnight, 2nd day air packages require a customer signature. |

Nice on getting a Wacom. I live in a condo building and here if you are not at home they will leave packages at the main office which keeps them in a secure area. They have a sheet you then sign there (not any UPS form but just a package check in sheet they put together with times, dates, (both delivery and resident pick up) and signatures when you pick up. The Postal Service is now leaving packages at the office here too. Makes it nicer for me. There are limited lockers for the Postal Service which will leave a key in your mailbox for it if they use one of those but they are not that big.

I live in an apartment complex in Carlsbad. There really isn't any problem here. I just hear a lot of stories of people following delivery trucks and taking packages left at doors. I know that I would be able to get my funds back or have another delivered but I hate the hassle and the wait. I saved a bit for the Wacom so the super saver shipping wait time was no big deal and I kinda knew that UPS might not ask for a signature. What upset me most was the condition of the package. But Amazon did make it up to me and the Wacom seems to work fine. I will continue business with them, (I'm kinda addicted to Amazon now), but that tablet was the most expensive thing that I ever purchased online and seeing that package gave me an uneasy feeling in the gut.
Our complex has those boxes for large packages for use by USPS only. I've had several deliveries from Amazon placed there. But they sent the tablet through UPS. You know FedEx came by today with a delivery for my neighbor who wasn't home and asked if I would accept the package for them. I said sure and they left a note on my neighbor's door. UPS has never done that. I have come home to find smaller packages at the door, but they never really concerned me because of the value of the packages. Stupid, huh? ![]() |

It's sort of a computer drawing board for artists, designers, photographers, etc. I have no idea of its capabilities and don't even know how to use one. I bought it for my brother. He's the designer. A recent graduate of FIDM. Thought I'd do something nice for him, and he is an awesome artist. (Hoping to sell some of his artwork. )And thanks. ![]() |

if UPS is anythnig like DHL, drivers only need a signature for packages that the shipper requires a signature on.

And I assume that responsibility for the package lies in the hands of the company that shipped it? (i.e. Amazon) |

it's up to the driver. drivers should know what areas are safe and which aren't.
My UPS dude is the best. he always delivers my packages as his last swing before he goes back - at around 5:30-6pm. so, i get my packages most of the time. the fedex guys are retarded. I've had stuff stolen because they think they can leave stuff on my front doorstep. That was fry's and frys was horrible in tracking that, and getting me a refund. it was a 10 buck thing, and I fought it for a few weeks, but they never gave me my money back. I hate frys. |

I like UPS a lot. One day I dropped my mp3 player outside after work and the UPS guy brought it to our front door, saying it looked expensive. People don't seem to do that very often. |
