I'm riding 300 miles for the Make-A-Wish foundation again this year and need your help!

I have started to raise support a little later than usual this year because I spent a good deal of time considering whether or not it would be right to ask you for a donation since we’re all watching our spending much more closely this year. I decided to go ahead and do so since I truly believe the Make-A-Wish foundation’s goal of providing hope, strength, and joy to seriously/terminally ill kids is a cause worth supporting.

At the end of the ride last year I was watching my kids play and I struck up a conversation with another parent that was doing the same thing. When we started talking, we realized she was the mother of the little boy that I had ridden for. She began to cry and tell me how much she appreciated our team of riders and how her family was impacted by having their son’s wish granted. They had been through a long and hard bout with his disease and like many of the families; they were able to fight through the hard times by telling themselves that if they could hold on for a little while longer, they were all going to be able to take a break from the treatments and relax as a family.

I told her that her gratitude should be directed at all of you that donated and that I actually enjoy doing the WAM because it combines two of my favorite activities, riding a bike and eating lots of food. She gave me a hug anyhow and wanted me to let everyone know how grateful she was.

Our goal this year is to raise $2,000,000 during the Wish-A-Mile event, enough to grant 250 wishes. I’m hoping you can help us achieve this goal by supporting my ride with a donation of $5, $10, or more. And because I realize that times are tough, I’m throwing in a little extra something this year. I am donating two Northwest Airlines tickets (25,000 miles per ticket) and one night at any Hilton hotel (up to 35,000 Hilton points) to the cause.

The way it will work is that for every 4 people that donate $50, my lovely assistant will pick one of the four names out of a hat to receive the airline ticket or hotel voucher, your choice. And for you math majors out there, yes…this does mean you can get an airline ticket for $200, pending reward availability. =)

i'm very grateful for the generosity of my fellow apexers. because a couple of you chose not to use the certificates you won, i have been able to at least one of them so far to raise additional funds towards my wife's campaign.

i have reached my goal in overwhelmingly large part due to my friends here. since a good number of you wanted your donation to be anonymous, i won't name all of you but i do want you to know i appreciate it greatly and am humbled by your actions!
