Realtor Compensation

Hey I've got a question.
in May, I was about to buy a nice luxury condo in Boston. I'd put in an offer, had it countered, and was getting pretty close to accepting, when a huge project got canceled at work. Last week I quit my job (long story, we just did our IPO, made $$$$$), and now am not in a position to buy anything anymore.

my realtor was really nice & did a lot of work on my behalf. I want to show my appreciation somehow but don't know what to do. I'm sure a lot of people have been in this situation.
THANKS

Buy them a bottle of wine or give them a gift card to show your appreciation. I wouldn't worry too much though. They are just doing their job

I agree with ray. there's no way that you're going to get close to pay for their real compensation if you did buy it. do something like you would for a close coworker on a holiday or birthday, and call it that.

real estate agents deal with plenty of people who end up not buying a house.

That's just part of the job of being a realtor, and she understands that.

When we sold our house two years ago, we signed the listing papers on a Saturday morning. That afternoon I mentioned to the neighbor we were putting the house up for sale. She told me her son was looking for a house in the neighborhood. I told him to talk to our realtor - he bought the house. The realtor showed the house exactly one time and that's it. She probably put in a total of ten hours of work on our house and received over ten thousand dollars for that.

So for every deal like yours, there's probably a deal like mine. It all averages out for a good real estate agent.

I don't have any idea we were in a different situation buying a house, but I got our Realtor a nice card and a gift card to a nice restaurant chain that could go towards a nice evening out for him and his wife.
