Google today: Yes, I'm a geek

Today Google is honoring the invention of the barcode and the doodle is a barcode:

So of course the first thing I did was to print the page and scan it with a barcode reader. It's Code128 and simply says "Google". What else would it say?

I didnt...probably because i searched through the little box in my browser last night and saw the barcode next to m search result. I just assumed google was screwing around and auto converting the search term to a barcode. kind of how they automatically do the calculator.

Barcode readers are cheap and available on eBay (remember the CueCat?) However, I have a few in the office for projects we've worked on in the past. Here's the one I used:

Code 128, Code 39, UPC, EAN-13, PostBar, etc. are all types of barcodes.

I use a program called "edocrab" for my BlackBerry. It tried bringing up a link to a product, but beside UPC, it said "Google"

Thanks for the heads up about that program. Doesn't work with my pearl though. Oh well. What I really need is something to read QRcodes.

The wired ones we use are from Welch Allyn. If someone's in the market, I'd recommend LED over Laser anyday. (Better MTBF)
