Pics of The Day: Going Surfing

I don't surf but a friend at work does and we decided to go out today to let us both practice our hobbies. The surf was supposed to be pretty good today but was not that outstanding. I did better than he did- not much surfing but I liked some of the photos I got.

In the morning I tried a technique I had read about. Switch the white balalce on the camera to tungsten or indoors- this turns things more blue. Then you put on a flash with an orange gel which should counterbalance the blue- giving a closer subject a warmer color. First attempt- not perfected yet, but like the results.

We started in PB (where we both live) and checked the surf at Cryatal Pier and PB Point (I think he called it- north of Tourmaline if you know the area).

Things looked OK when we got there so he got ready and headed out.

The surfboard and truck shot was in the orange/ blue too but I like the BW better. A good shot of my friend- he will really like this one:
