Get that smile off your face!!
I have a window fan and was wondering what other people who have window fans have the best luck with. Suck the hot air out, or Blow the cool air in? |

lets do both!
In My room...I have 2 window fans...I find it really good to have 1 suck and 1 blow...only if you have 2 windows though...I think it really works great with both sucking and blowing...I get the best of both worlds

if you want it cooler inside and it's cold outside, then suck air in. If it's hot outside, leave fan switch on the off position.
exhibit A: Code:
Do not use fan under or near water, especially while bathing. In case of fire, use a hammer. This educational portion of the thread has been brought to you by Sho.gun, all procedes from this activity will be donated to the National Ferret Revolution Foundation. |

Actually my box has 2 fans in it. It's like 2 8 inch fans on top of each other in a long box (well, as tall as the window frame). Each fan can SUCK or BLOW. I usually have the bottom one SUCKING and the top one BLOWING, because, well heat rises.
But seeing as it is only in one window, maybe there is a better solution?Oh... it also has a temperature gauge on it and I can set it to a certain temperature and it will turn on if it gets above that temperature. |

If your fan is equipped with a thermometer, charge for at least 24 hours before first use. anyways, i dunno, try experimenting with it. Hey, if you have the bottom one sucking and the top blowing, then you turn the fan around, the bottom will be blowing and the top will be sucking. Cool huh? |

What about this...suck in the cool air all night, and then when the sun rises, close all your windows and curtains and try to keep your place from getting hot. It worked for us before we got a swamp cooler. Good luck.

In the famous words of Bart Simpson “I didn’t think it was humanly possible, but this both sucks and blows at the same time”.

in my attic apartment, sucking cool air in did nothing; blowing hot air out worked quite well. other places, it dint seem to matter much. if you have a second window, get a second fan, and do the suck n blow combo.
if you're going to stick with your current set-up, spend two days on double-suck, two days on double-blow, and then two days each on top-suck/bottom-blow and top-blow/bottom-suck. keep a detailed record of the effectiveness of each method. make a bar graph. present your results to me by next tuesday, or you're fired.

i think i have the same window fan..
it doesn't really make a difference to me.. i've tried doing the suck during the night... and then do low speed blow during the day (while i'm at work). by the time i get home, it's pretty cool, and then i just do a high suck again. so, high suck, then low blow, then high suck. ![]() |

I use two fans, one pushing air in, and one pulling it out. They are in two different rooms. It gets a little breeze moving.
If you are in an upstairs room, I would push air out. You have the hotter air rising from the rest of the house and pushing to get out anyway. Might as well use that to your advantage. If there is a breeze, use that to your advantage, just go in the same direction. If it is getting to hot and your fan is just not cutting it, suck air in and put a bowl of ice in the air flow. It should cool you a little bit. If it's just to hot go find someplace with AC. Like your car or a mall. |
