G/A? Representing @ the AMD Reality Check Tour

One of 40 chips they gave away out of something like 300 people.

Now.. I just need to get a new mobo and some memory.

They also were throwing out hats and t-shirts constantly. The big prize was the Battle of the Boxes. If you signed up for the event, you would get your name drawn and (5 people each round) compete in series of questions centering around AMD processors and it's competitors. The first person to get 5 stickers stuck to their head (5 answers right) would be one of the people in battle of the boxes. They did another 5 people to get the second finalist. Then those 2 people would have to chose a cpu, video card, and memory (everything else was the same). They were told an amount that they could not go over when making their choice as each item had a set price. The choices were 128mb or 256MB ddr for memory, ti4200 or onboard Nforce or ti4600 for video, and xp2000+ or xp2200+ for cpu.

Contestant 1 chose XP2000+ and 128MB ddr and contestant 2 chose XP2200+ and 256MB ddr. They both took the ti4200. Strange.

They would have to build the system and boot it into windows XP and run some predetermined tests. PCmark2002, Serious Sam, and UT2k3. There was a 30 minute time limit and they both finished but only one booted, so he automatically won.

The prizes were:
Grand prize - $2500, 2 XP 2400 processors and "anything we have with AMD on it" (as the announcers said )

First Prize - IF it booted into windows, but lost on benchmarks you get $500 and 2 XP 2400 processors and the other AMD stuff. If it did not boot then you would get $100 and an XP 2400 processor

I went away with a AMD Athlon 2400 XP and an AMD hat. I am happy.

I want to see my picure, sho.gun!

dude, hang10 has it... he was supposed to upload it like 30 minutes ago. Dunno where the hell he is.

It was fun though, lots of stuff happening, loud music, Zre0 attempting to dance. I didn't get any processors but I got a hat and a shirt. Oh and that lanyard thing is cool too. Damn it's late

Hehe.. ya. He also kept getting thrown in our little mosh pit when people were trying to catch the hats and shirts that were flying overhead.

Damn! I wanted one of those! Instead, I was working OT until 1:30am on a hardware failure in New York.

Why couldn't I be there? Let me tell you! A "well-known manufacturer" of networking equipment whose name rhymes with Nabisco has a hardware defect (power module that suffers from accelerated wear due to insufficient cooling of certain components) in a particular line of their equipment made between Mar/2001 and Jun/2001 and the problem only comes to light after 18-24 months of operation. Now my company might have bought maybe 40 of these high-end pieces of &$#@! and now 2-3 of them are failing every week. What does this well-known manufacturer propose to do with their defective hardware? A REBATE CREDIT PROGRAM to upgrade the equipment at a cost to us of about $1 million. What do we say? #@$!@ you - give it to us for free or you'll see us in court for breach of contract. I am almost done with my CCNP certification and I hate them. Oh do I hate them. Almost as bad as Micro$haft.

Granted I made more than enough last night in OT to cover the cost of a XP2400, motherboard and a Lian-Li case, I still wanted to be there...

Yes.... very nice. The only thing that sucked about the show was that there was like A chick there.

Well, more like a dozen. I sure wouldn't have minded them AMD girls slapping stickers on me. The one anyway.
