We need an "Old Timers" area

Anyone else think we need an "Old Timers" area where only proven members who have been a part of the board for a long period of time have access? No disrespect to all of these NOOBs but I honestly am finding some of them to be exceedingly annoying. Recently there seems to have been an influx of posters who just dont understand the nature of the board. As a result, the forums have been a much different place to post.

To solve this issue, there should be an "Old Timers" area of the board. I would have said do it by post numbers but there are plenty of people who have been here for a long time but dont have huge post numbers. Conversely, some newer people have felt the need to run up their post count at an insane rate.

Thus, in order to protect the integrity of this idea, I would say that members who have been here for over two years would gain entry into the special area. There could even be a special room that only those of us who have been here 5 years can get into. (Although, I am still a few months away from that number myself.)

What do other "old timers" think? (I am sure we can say that those who would be excluded arent going to like this idea.)

No need. I think we have always been able to slowly integrate and assimilate people over time. This has happened time and time again. If they don't fit, they slowly leave on their own volition. This seems to work pretty well. The best defence against people who bug you is to block the other member

Creating a "Old Timers" area will foster a lack of community on this board

Yeah, but it seems that at times the people are slower to integrate then before. I have never bothered to put anyone on ignore, as I can ignore them on my own, but I am definitely scratching my head recently.

I just wait for the n00b to start bitching about how 'everyone is out to get me', and 'why is everyone picking on me', and how we are all jealous over their perfect lives n such, then I make a mental note to disregard everything they say. And if they start neffing, I put them on ignore, so I don't start flaming them.

I say it's a great idea. I've always wanted to be an elite

I do! How come no one gets my jokes? I guess I'm just not funny. Funny looking maybe.

Now as far as old timers go...what about those of us who used to dial-in to the old fashioned bbs' in the late 80's/early 90's?

Seriously Gothic Girl gave you a perfection solution. On forumsplace you can create your own private members only forum where no one will bother you. Since you feel so strongly about it I think you should.

while i understand your frustration and see your point, what exactly would us old timers talk about in this old timers forum? how good it used to be? i like the idea in theory, but in practice it seems a bit useless. perhaps we can just aide people in assimilating better.

I for one would love to see a place where people dont respond just to up their post count without really having anything to contribute to the thread. Consequently, those people would no longer feel the need to "moderate" or "police" the forums on their own, belittling anyone who doesnt have as many posts as themselves along the way.

I for one stopped posting in opinion type threads long ago, because no matter what I felt and subsequently wrote, I was told I was wrong, the other person's view was always right and then they would not listen to anyone elses points of view because they viewed their opinions as fact. I also know of a few other "senior" members who have felt this way.

No, talking about the good ole days and how we typed with corded keyboards and used CRT's isnt exactly what I was thinking of.

I am sure you can figure out things that we could talk about that might otherwise create issues that wouldnt be present otherwise.

nevermind... I agree with Brew. Just try to help people assimilate.. and those that can't be helped will eventually get themselved kicked off.

How did it used to be? Why was it "better"? Who should ASSimilate... and what does that mean? You're right... this is somewhat of a franchise and players come and go all the time. I agree Veterans are due a certain amount of respect... if nothing else, for that alone. But everyone on this board was a rookie once and you have to be a rookie to become a veteran. I was fortunate enough to have some "big star" board members graciously offer suggestions and discuss tradition... which I've taken to heart. That's part of a veteran's responsibility IMHO. I do my best to wear the team colors proudly and I hope everyone that frequents this little corner of the internet feels and does the same.

Moreover... although change is uncomfortable for some, many find it offers opportunity for growth. Perception is everything!

My $0.02...

i don't like the idea ufcrusher. it's segregation, and would make new people feel unwelcome and unworthy.

i don't know about you, but when i go to a party i feel like the more the merrier. i don't want to go to the back room with a chosen few and puff on stogies.
