Friday!!
Happy Friday, and remember, no one can take that away from you. I dunno about you, but I thought E3 this year was kind of a bust. Boring is the word. Not that Nintendo needed to do anything. Short of Reggie getting up on stage, violating Princess Peach while singing I’m a Little Tea Pot, I don’t think Nintendo could have screwed up their presentation. They have so much momentum at this point, it’s hard NOT to be successful. Plus, they have the advantage of not really competing with Microsoft or Sony. Microsoft was a snore fest…I mean, seriously, pink controllers and a green xbox? On the other hand, I get the impression the real bombs will be dropped come September. I think they are planning a price cut. Not the one floating around, though. I think they are planning a massive price cut. Remember, Microsoft wants the Xbox to be the home media hub. So they want everyone to have one. Microsoft will eat it’s own shirt to get that. Sony was ok, but they’ve just made too many errors getting to this point, and I’m starting to think they don’t really care. I think their real goal is to win the BluRay/HD DVD format wars, because dammit, this time Sony really really wants to own a format that is actually successful. They blew it with VHS/Beta, they missed out on CD/DVD, DAT and miniDiscs didn’t do it. I don’t think anyone really understands how much Sony would sell their soul to be a format king. So much so that I think they have no problem losing the console wars if it means in the end, they still win with Blu-Ray. Which could totally happen, because even a loser console gets in more homes then a new kind of movie player does. But whatever, I just play games. Sharky Extreme starts off our rather pleasing Friday with the PNY GeForce 8800 GTS 320MB OCIA takes on the Mountain Mods U2-UFO Duality Hardware Secrets whispers in my ear about the Foxconn A690GM2MA Motherboard Tech Lounge kicks back with the Lian-Li PC-A05 Mid-Tower C Hardware Zone performs a mighty XFX GeForce 8600 GT Fatal1ty Techpowerup reports in with the Thermaltake Max Orb Tech Report brings us down a little with the Belkin's Flip-DVI-D Techwarelabs slow dances with the Razer Krait 1600dpi Gaming Mouse, but I try not to judge. Did you go to e3 this year? And was that all you had to report?
![]() Sony has a few things going for it and has been selling out at my friends CC store since implementing those price cuts/combo deals with 5 free blue ray movies. New PS3 games are finally/coming out and their franchise game (GT)is less than a year away (hopefully). There seems to be more interest in blue ray and sony will probably "win" this time. Mostly, it seems a lot of people with wii's and 360's are looking at the PS3 as the next level. According to people I've talked to, Wii's novelty wears off after a few months. If the games are there, it makes sense that people would pay the extra $100 for the PS3's blue ray player over the 360 without native hd.

the games aren't there, the price cut really isn't one since they are doing away with the 60GB model. and the 'novelty' of the Wii is only wearing off with the hardcore. Well, they aren't the target market to begin with. And there are still people standing in line on weekends to get one. Once you have the buzz with the mainstream, you are gold.

Ninja Gaiden Sigma looks really nice imo. Reviews are good and it's supposed to be very difficult. Grand Turismo looks spectacular and is due out in 1st quarter of 08. It's not as bad for ps3 as when it was released.
You are right about them blowing out the 60 gig ps3's right now because production has stopped on them. I think if enough people buy it at the lower price Sony will figure out a way to get the newer one down. Especially since the cost between a 60 gig hd (then) and 120 gig (now) is negligible. They are already losing $150 - $250 a unit sold and will only make it back if they sell enough games, accessories, and blue ray dvd's. edit: They are moving to an 80 gig hd. I thought it was 120. Anyways, the Amazon deal is still pretty neat. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0009VXAM0/...m&linkCode=as1 $500: PS3 60 gig/controller Remote RE: Apocalypse Blueray DVD 5 Blueray DVD's (with purchase of any BR player) Details: http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.htm...d_i=B0009VXAM0 Last edited by Showtime : 07-13-2007 at 01:53 PM. |
