The great Stevie Ray Vaughn.

I had.....I had a weekend.

Friday I stayed up way too late reading, which Stella neither knew nor cared at 6 am. So I was pretty zonked most of the day. We had a friend over for Sammy, and they played, while I screwed around with Guitar Hero and later, Frets on Fire when the kids were playing Wii.

Then we watched Astronaut Farmer. Which was a really stupid movie. I mean, I expected a level of stupid, but I was hoping for a dumb feel good Salvage 1 kind of thing, but this was just dumb. I passed out a like 10:30, and that was that.

Sunday I had a bout of crabby children syndrome. In an attempt to deflect it, we went to Golden Valley days or something like that. It took place in an old, old ex church, which was kind of cool, and they had a couple of old cars and face painting and a magic show and Drug Free Batman.

Let me back up there. Yes, we walk into the parking lot and Drug Free Batman, with his at first glance cool black Corvette (or batmobile) but up close was in fact a rusting wreck, called us over to take a look at his car. He said the kids could sit in it. He said there was candy in it. Which would be odd under normal circumstances, really.

Anyway, Batman, who was wearing shorts, looked at my oldest and said, "Hey, you look like you're old enough to have some friends into drugs." I didn't hear this part, but I guess my wife did, and that rather confused poor Sammy.

No, the part I heard is when he handed her a "Say No Way To Drugs" card with a picture of Batman and some kids looking like they are showing everyone an upside down shadow puppet of a bird. Turns out, no, they are holding up a "W" made up of their hands. Batman explained this was to show to your druggie friends when they offered you drugs, so you could say, "No Way!"

In thinking on it, seems to me showing my friends a big "W" would be in fact saying, "Way!" But what do you expect from a guy with his own 'ward'.

And depending on how drugged up your friends are, I dunno that flashing gang signs is really all that bright.

Anyway, the man telling my kids to not do drugs kept saying, "sit in my car, there is candy in there" like 4 times, which really is kind of freaky. Don't do drugs little girl, now hop into my car and find my candy.

The whole thing was pretty funny. Yet highly disturbing.

"You know, that was really stupid. D.A.R.E. was much better."

The magic show was....painful, but ok for the wee ones. Stella got to do a magic trick.

The best part, the electric Accordion player. Seriously, he rocked on that thing hard.

After that, we went home and proceeded to be crabby to each other. But we will always have the memories of a shorts wearing Batman in a rusted out 'vette offering up the girls candy and holding a big "W".

I wish I could make stuff like that up.

You go have a day.
