Internet connect on one computer is slowww

I have a Dell Dim. 8300 that all of the sudden yesterday the internet connection went to almost nothing. Email times out it takes so long, and with IE it says website found , just hangs saying waiting for reply. Firefox I can pull up most of Google as a home page, but it too won't connect anywhere beyond that. I am on another computer now and have switched slots on the router and it seems to be just the one computer, when I go through the local internet connections and repair procedure it says everything is ok. Anyone have a thought, beyond mine of shooting the thing?
THANKS

Sounds like you are a victim of adaware and viruses to me...

If you are THAT infected (and there are several apps you can use to determine that... Adaware SE, Spybot Search and Destroy, and Hijack This) then possibly nuking the maching and re-installing your software is your best bet honestly.

Good luck either way.

I'm at the point of nuking, which really ticks me off. Ran Ad-Aware, Spybot Search and Destroy, and McAfee virus scan and none of them identified anything, so not sure if thats the problem. I don't have Hijack This and can't get to the site now to download it. Thanks for the ideas.

McAfee never impressed me for discovering viruses, I use PcCillin and I love it.Sometimes they update my computer twice in a day. Call Newgg to get the latest version. It's worth the extra money.

Thanks for the ideas! Well, I don't want to admit it, but I brought it into a Best Buy and the guy checked everything while I was there. He looked under the cover for the case fan and found 3 capacitors that had obviously been zapped by too much power at some point. They have an orange goo coming out the top, he also figured out it was just the nic card that must have died. So I will be posting in the hardware section for thoughts to replace the MB and case, since Dell sucks for replacing their MB's. So much for my surge protectors, I'm going to have to try and find the material too see if I can file a claim. They are 5 years old so I maybe out of luck. I also bought a UPS for the future surges.

Did you run them from "safe mode"? If not, then I'd try that first...

but in the end, nuking it is probably the best option (if you do that, be sure to fully arm yourself with protections and firewalls before you go surfing the net.)
