DVD Shrink - Cyclical Redundancy Check

I'm trying to back up some DVD's and it stops really early in the process with some sort of error. Can someone help?

Is this a DVD made by Sony Pictures? I've seen errors like this when there's copy protection involved on the DVD.

Get AnyDVD. There was a promo for $34.95. Don't know if it's still good. I think they give you a free trial for 15 days.

Yep, use Anydvd, along with DVD Shrink. Sometimes you also may need to use DVD Decrypter with Any DVD and then DVD Shrink.

Also make sure that the disc doesn't have finger prints, or scratches.

If all else failes try it on a different dvd drive. I have issues all the time with my main PC and have to actually do the ripping on my laptop.

It's a disney disc. I just hate using the original since my kids are prone to damaging them.

I usually get errors when the disk is damaged.

edit: wow, that sounded really obvious.

Also, try ripping just the main feature, rather than the whole disc. The error may be caused by a part of the disc with relatively insignificant content.

Dave.

DVD Shrink with FixVTS. Never had a problem with this combo.

You need fixVTS to copy a Disney disc because of the protection they use.

I'm in the same boat - the kids absolutely trash the DVDs, so I've taken to making a copy for them & hiding the original.

Must just be the version of AnyDVD I use, but I have only had to resort to FixVTS once, and in that case it didn't work. I don't remember which disc it was now, but I either just ripped the main title or gave up.

Just experienced the same issue for the first time. As with brainsmile, it was a Disney film (Good Morning Vietnam). Must be some protection they use. Brainsmile, did you end up finding a solution?

edit: nm just saw this --

Okay
I'm trying to use VTS Fix and can't seem to figure out how to use it. Do I open the VOB file straight off the DVD? When I start the clean up I get error messages...

"couldn't open E:\VIDEO_TS.VOB for read/write"

for every VOB file. This seems only natural since DVDs are read only. Am I supposed to copy the DVD contents to the HDD first or something?

I think that's what you do. The VTS Fix site has a fourm discussing this.

I haven't ha a chance to really read the forums, but for now I'm just using AnyDVD. Seems like a nice little program. I might continue using it. For those who use AnyDVD, do you always have it running in the background, or do you just run it whenever you need it for backing up a DVD?

I turn it off when I am not using it. It generally becomes one of your start programs.
