Networking Help

I have 2 Windows XP Pro SP2 computers on my network. Both are under the same workgroup, and both "see" each other on the LAN. Trouble is, my laptop cannot access files shared on my desktop for some reason. Every time I try to access files from the laptop, I get an "Access Denied" error.

Anyone know what I can do to solve this?

(Oh, and for kicks, I tried the old Win98 trick -- created a user on my desktop that is the same username as the one on my laptop).

I'd double-check permissions on the desktop's folder you're trying to access.

try disableing your virus scanner and firewall on your pc's then try it.

i had the same problem norton systemworks and the worm pertection in the norton AV stoped the connection. i had to go into norton and set a rule

Permissions is that Everyone has full control (though I tried just "Read" as well), and the only protection software I have is Avast (no spyware/firewall other than my router, which has worked fine before).

When you connect to the share, use 'connect as' and enter the credentials of the machine you're connecting to.

For example, if you're on machine B connecting to machine A, connect as 'machineA\administrator' for the username & enter that password.

I think that the machine that you're trying to connect to has to have a user that has a password. I could never connect to my computers when none of my users had a password.

This is true - if you connect to a machine over a network, the account you use MUST have a password set. It's a security measure to protect people who don't set an admin password.
