Linux Install

I just dl'ed SUSE Linux and burned the iso onto a CD. How the hell do I install this thing? I was hoping the CD will be bootable so I can just reboot the machine and go into the BIOS and tell the comp to boot fromt he CD but it doesn't work. The CD is not bootable.

Any particular reason why you're using Suse? If there is none, I'd suggest trying Ubuntu. You may find it more to your liking.

Sorry, can't help you with the Suse issue. Not a big fan, never used it before.

How'd you burn the iso?

http://iso.snoekonline.com/iso.htm

The procedure is different from just copying the file to CD...

Yeah I know. I realized that I may have dl'ed the wrong iso. I'm redoing it and I'm going to get the CD version because the comp I want to install Linux does not have a dvd drive.

You get it all up and running?

I wouldnt personaly recommend SUSE, try Ubuntu or Debian if you're feeling lucky :-)

It's running but no internet. I've been reading up on using the newsdipper thingie to install the windows drivers for my belkin wireless network card. Boy, I wish there is a beginner's book I can get for Linux. I don't know my ass from my elbow using this OS.

A lot of helpfule stuff can be found by using the man pages in the command line.

Here are a couple of places I've found to help me:

http://linuxreviews.org/beginner/#toc6 - Beginners commands

http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/ - A forum with a pretty decent amount of information.

This is a *great* resource for all things Linux. Bookmark it: you will use it a lot. The search function on the forums isn't very good due to volume, so I always search with Google and use the "site:" keyword, e.g. "what I'm looking for site:linuxquestions.org"
