WOOT!!! U-Verse is here!!!

Well I finally got on the bandwagon with AT&T U-Verse...

They had been installing in Indy, but hadn't yet come to my neighborhood... however on July 4th, I got a ring at my doorbell and it was a U-Verse rep.

Of course he didn't even have to sell me on the service.... Fiber out in the street and they re-wired my house for Cat5 to bring Internet and TV services to my entire house.

Pretty much, I was paying Comcast about $65 for BASIC cable (about 70 channels), however with U-Verse, I could've gotten the 180 channel package for about $54. However I went with the 280 channel package for $74 plus they bumped my internet speed up to 4 Megabits (I had 3 Megabits previously) for the same price that I was already paying SBCGlobal.

So much TV to watch... so little time. They even gave me a High Definition DVR along with 3 other recievers plus HD programming free for a year.

Life is good... in the U-Verse. So long... Comcast. U-SUCK!!!!

NICE - let me know how you like it. AT&T has been stringing cable to my neighborhood for this, but no idea how soon it might be available. I would LOVE to drop Comcast.

But I won't want to downgrade to 4mbps from my current 6mbps. (And of course, Comcast has a pattern of upping their basic speeds in areas where faster alternatives are available.)

U-Verse is scheduled to hit my neighborhood sometime this year or next. Though I think I'd much rather have Verizon's FIOS. My folks have that and it is AMAZING! D/Ling high-def video content is lightning fast and the numbers you get when running speed tests are just unbelievable (20Mbps down/10Mbps up).

Well.. I CHOSE to have 4 Mbps. I am on the "Pro" package (which is 3Mbps for SBCGlobal but 4 Mbps for U-Verse). This is their $24.99 internet.

I can bump that up to 7 Mbps for another $10 per month on their "Elite" package ($34.99 per month). But honestly, I don't need the Elite package... as I don't do quite that much downloading of huge files.

However one thing to note is.. on both of these packages, the upload speed is 1 Mbps... OHHH how sweet it is!!! City of Villians has never played faster. Low Ping FTW!!!!!

It's all about choices... and right now, Comcast has some serious competition. I can't wait for U-verse to push forward and surpass Comcast's speeds (you know that 15 Mbps is not that far off with fiber) for less cost. They already beat the pants off of Comcast in the television services area... Internet will surely be next.

Well when that level of fiber comes to Indy... I'll be on it. But for now, I'll take what I can get.

Comcast has pressed their "monopoly status" for long enough... and it's just about time for someone else to give them a legitimate challenge. Maybe now, they will re-think their pricing strategies.

NOT!

Enjoy the speed and selection, my friend! (Not to mention the pricing...)

Yeah, I'm with you. When U-Verse hits my neighborhood, bye-bye Cox Cable!
