81 updates is a bit much

i just did a fresh install of windows xp pro .with sp2 on a laptop and there is 81 updates avail from microsoft .
seems like a bit much !

Sp2 came out in August of 2004. There has been a lot of things that happened since then.

I have XP Pro on a computer which has never been connected to the internet/ Any reason to update?
