I know there are programs available, and maybe even through win95/98 but I just dont know how to work them so I'm asking. How do I make it so that my pc's security works like a laptops where when its turned on, it asks for a password and without the password, you cant use the computer. There is always some windows thing that pops up when the computer is restarted or just turned on but that thing does nothing, by clicking on ESC it goes away and the computer starts up with no problems. Thank you in advance for all those who helps.

You have to do it in the BIOS. When your computer starts up, it should say something like "Press F1 to enter Setup". Password protection should be in there somewhere.

I tried doing that but I got a compaq for a computer and it doesnt say anything like press F1 to enter setup or anything like that. It just loads and goes straight to the windows screen, then right after that, the windows password thing which can be easily bypassed. Thanks for the quick reply by the way.

This will not help you for when the system is first turned on. Set your screen saver time to 1 minutes and assign it a password.

Cant it easily be bypassed by restarting the computer? The reason I was asking about how to lock my computer is I dont want some little annoying cousin of mine playing his stupid games online all the waking hour while leaving me 5 minutes before I go to bed before he gets his game addicted butt off. I even tried to delete his game from my computer and setting the site to the forbidden site from microsoft explorer but it doesnt work for some strange reason. That is why I want to lock my computer from the beginning.

Also, if there is not a way for me to put a password lock on my computer from the getgo, is there a good but free software out there that can make it so that I can make it so that I can stop any user from accessing that game site? Can I just set up some nanny thing like there is for porn but for game sites instead? Thanks for any input.

Try going to http://www.hotfiles.com and searching for "desktop lock" or something to that effect. I know they have quite a few programs that will lock your computer. If you really try you can find ways around most of them but they should be enough to keep your cousin off.

You could always get WinNT or Win2k. Or try searching download.com for something.

Dragon: What kind of Compaq is it? I believe that most of them use F10 to enter setup at boot up.
