Honestly, I'd wait until AFTER Service Pack 1 becomes official for Vista.

If you are a gamer or depend on software that came out before Vista was released, I'd probably hang on the XP.

XP compatibility leaves something to be desired. I had some problems with FF and PDF printing.

The only issues I've seen with Vista are 1) it's HEAVY - you want to have a GB of RAM, a fast processor & a 3D video card to really take advantage;

and 2) there's really no significant improvements over XP.

So all of my machines are running XP except for a Vista test machine in my office.

More like 2GBs to 4GBs of RAM to run that beast satisfactorily.

File copy/move operations are slooow. It takes forever to "calculate time remaining". I've read rumors that SP1 improves this, but doesn't fix it.

My #1 all time biggest issue, on the file dialog boxes, the little button that goes up one directory is removed. So if I had previously saved something in "My Documents\My Pictures", it will default to that with the next save. If I want to then go to "My Documents\My Music", I used to hit the "up" button, then click "My Pictures". Now I have to click the shortcut to "My Documents", then navigate from there. It is the most minor freaking thing, but it annoys me every single time I have to change directories.

There is also some compatibility problem with my HP 6800 series printer. Every document I send fails, then gets re-sent, then prints. It takes about a minute. I blame HP for that one, though.

So yeah, not a big Vista fan here.
