Various Version of Excel Compatible?

I tried transferring some data from Windows XP Office 2002 Excel to an Office 95 version which is on Windows 98SE and I got an error.

Are all versions of Excel supposed to be compatible with one another. If not, should I get a newer version like Office 2000 for the computer which has 98SE?

Older Office program can't open newer version. You have to save the file (using Office 2002) in Office 95 format.

Or you could get new Office suite.

I don't see an option to do that in Office 2002?

Save as and in the drop down for "Save as type", it should have an option for Excel 5.0/95 Workbook.

BTW I'm using Office 2000 at work so the Excel 5.0/95 option might be removed from Office 2002.

In Office 2007, the option is "Excel 97-2003".

Found both of those options under "Save As". I copied the file on to a floppy but I am having trouble importing to KJPro. I will have to figure this problem out.

Thanks a lot.

Well... Office 95 is older than "97"... therefore, it might just be too old to accept the file he is trying to downgrade.

I know that. I was just pointing out that the 95 compatibility got dropped somewhere along the way.
