It it recommended to do SP1 for Vista

I have Vista, I thought SP1 was eventually going to update but since it was released in March and I still don't have it, should I add it manually? One reason I considered it is that I have 4 gigs of ram and Vista only recognizes about 3.3 gigs. SP1 is supposed to fix that.

If you're running the 32-bit version of Vista, other than feeling better about it personally, seeing the extra RAM probably won't make a lick of difference in what you're doing (unless you happen to be running Oracle with several hundred simultaneous connections).

You SHOULD upgrade to SP1 because in addition to bugfixes it also contains a bunch of security patches. But you probably won't gain anything useful RAM-wise.
