Windows Vista Home
I got my OS today and installed. Any suggestions like how to get rid of the annoying "I don't recognize that program. Do you really want to run/install it"? I closed out most of the sidebar things (I like the pictures thing for now and left the clock). I tried to install a game from the DVD drive and it kept asking "do ya, punk?" and do nothing when I clicked "yes". I ended up selecting to explore under "My Computer> D: Drive DVD" and found the program launcher. I haven't really gotten much further than that. It is installing right now.
I also haven't tried to hook it up to the internet yet or try to copy over files from the old computer. Reading the booklet it says you cannot use a USB to transfer files from one computer to another? Anyhow I was thinking of taking out the drive from this one and putting it in the new one and copying a few files (like photos and Favorites- I already know most programs have to be manually installed). Any suggestions welcomed. I will probably ditch Norton and try Avast once I get on the internet with it. Thanks in advance!

Ug. Gives me some message about program cannot be installed without administrator control. This is rediculous. Now I have to find out how to get around that. Maybe I should have stayed with XP!
I found the "Run as Administrator". Don't know why it won't just autorun when you put in something. It is crazy the hoops you have to jump through on Vista! Last edited by zippyjuan : 11-25-2008 at 12:15 AM. |

Turn of the User Access Control in Control Panel or whatever it's called. Oh and turn off Shadowcopy because everything fricken file will be duplicated. I had a 10gig video file drop my total HD size by 20gig if you leave it on.

Hold down the Windows key and press R, then type "msconfig" and press ENTER.
From there, click the Tools tab, then double-click on "Disable UAC" -- you'll have to reboot, and then those darn prompts will go away.

Thanks- this seems to have worked! As for the ShadowCopy, from what I found disabling that will also disable your System Restore. Thanks for the tips! |

Or use VLite to disable it and to remove extra stuffs that you don't use/need. Then burn the ISO to make a backup copy & reinstall.
