My copy of Win 7 Ultimate Upgrade is in the mail. Used my wife's educational discount to get it for about a benji. There wasn't an option for $30 home premium because she doesn't have an .edu email account. I'll be going from Vista 32-bit to Win 7 64-bit. Hopefully I won't run into any issues but who am I kidding. It's Microsoft.

yup, i went to bestbuy at lunch and picked up the home premium full version.

I backed up my stuff and set it to install then went to bed. Woke up w/ WIN 7 on my machine.

i tried to boot and do the 64 bit OS but couldn't and i couldn't install from windows either. I'll try upgrade from 32 to 64 tonight.

I haven't gotten a chance to use it much but it looked pretty cool. I've already noticed several intuitive time saving changes that i really appreciate.

i think this one is going to be a win (no pun intended) for them.

I've got a couple of the $50 Home Premium Upgrades in the mail. I'll probably get a third via the $30 student deal through my son's college email.

I installed the RC on a couple of systems and it looked pretty nice. Only problem was that it lacked the RealTek sound drivers, but they were available from the vendor web site.

I like it, but not that different from Vista. I had no quams with Vista, was a good OS in my opinion. I was a little peaved that they completly removed the classic start menu... But I am used it now.

I'm still using good ole XP. 7 doesn't have any features, I'd pay for.

been using it for a while...it's OK, not that much better than vista, but definitely easy to use and more efficient.

I bought a 3 pack Family edition for Home Premium, however I have not installed it yet.

I'll probably wait a few months to install... just to see how everything goes with everyone else. I'm in no rush to move forward.

I did the same and installed it clean on my main box yesterday. Still running Vista on a separate disk and partition until I have all applications reinstalled. Used the transfer tool as not to lose customized settings without an issue. Biggest problem was getting Itunes to realize I wasn't violating any itunes rules (not sure if I can blame MSFT for that).

I'll probably update the kids' computers in a similar manner.

I got the download through DigitalRiver deal for students. It was a total pain in the arse to unpack and unload on my 32 bit Vista setup. Spent the day downloading it and trying to unpack it three times thinking it was a file error and finally thought I couldn't have screwed the pooch three times on the download and did a search. MS and DR are aware of this problem but have no work around for it. So I followed the trail on the search engines and found a workaround for the crap. Finally on my Win7 HP 64 bit setup. All these options are phooey if you ask me. Nothing wrong with rolling out a monolith instead of 8 bricks that are no different from each other IMHO.
Still can notice a speed difference, but not sure if that's just the fresh install period. At least they had the sense to provide a defrag util in this OS.

been using the full version for about a week, was using the RC version on and off at work. I like it.

Clutchy, you cannot upgrade 32 bit to 64bit, you need to do a wipe and fresh install for that.

I have had Vista Home Premium 32 bit (OEM from NewEgg- don't think there is any cheap or free update but don't really see a reason anyways) for less than a year- no reason to update. I have things running the way I like (or at least am used to). Ran XP until then for about six years.

I'll probably upgrade my primary home machine to Ultimate over Christmas break since it needs a reload anyway. Just debating whether to install 32 or 64-bit (mainly for the sake of all the kid's games).

explain.

I tried to boot from CD w/ the 64 bit OS and it wouldn't recognize it as a boot disc. Maybe i should just go look up the directions...

i'm kinda scared to do that though since all my proggies work and i haven't had to reinstall all that much which i was pretty surprised with.

Used it quite a bit more and this one is definitely a keeper. Feels snappier than XP but that could just be fresh install. I do think it utilizes dual processors better.

usually people have recommended waiting for SP1 for new OS's if you don't have any particular issues with your current one. but it seems like with the long beta testing of Win 7 bugs are less of an issue this time?

just recently installed XP x64 which I find works well for now, but really want to upgrade to Win 7 x64 eventually.

Windows 7 is Vista SP3, so there really isn't a lot of reason to wait.

Got my 3rd copy of Windows 7 Home Premium upgrade via my son's college email account ($30). When I was ordering, I noticed that they had an option for moving from 32-bit (XP or Vista) to Windows 7 64-bit (for an extra $13 or so, because it requires a DVD copy of the media) which I decided go get for my system. I'll let my son have one of my 32-bit upgrades.

I think the $30 is for an upgrade, but if you're already on Vista the upgrade should be pretty seamless.

yeah it did seem too good to be true. it didn't actually say "upgrade" until it was in my cart. oh well.

i'm currently running on XP x64 (of dark and unknown origins ). I wonder if an upgrade is still possible.

you cannot pop in a 64 bit disk and tell it to upgrade your 32 bit install. It won't do it; there is too much difference between the two, and you're too likely to break things. To install a 64 bit OS, your previous OS must be 64 bit, or you need to format your harddrive and do a fresh install.

Well f*ck. I have win7 ultimate upgrade trying to update vista and it won't do it. Ugh...I've been reading that you can and I just did a factory restore.

Well I have the day off so I'll be spending all day to get this done.

Yeah, I like how OS X did their $30 (no student discount required) Snow Leopard upgrade. It was basically the honor system. You could install it on a formatted computer if you wanted. Oh and after you did a clean install, you could bring your files over using your time machine backup if you so desired.

Well that was the easiest Windows install I've ever done. I'm running Win 7 Ultimate 64bit. I booted up off the Upgrade CD and it took less that an hour.

Now I need to update all my drivers. My trackpad doesn't scroll up or down. I figure my webcam is probably not going to work as well as my fingerprint reader.

I'm using 9.04 at work and on my netbook and on my dad's computer. I haven't decided if I'm going to upgrade or not yet since they're all working great as is, and I haven't seen any must-have new stuff in 9.10

Sorry to continue off topic, but I'm curious. It seems like from the day I first touched the internet I've been reading that "Linux is awesome." I've always wanted to try it out, but due to the apps I must use for my line of work, I practically have no choice but to use a PC. For what type of professional fields is using linux solely an option?
