Today I've reinstalled my win2000 system (don't ask), but now everytime I right click on a link and choose 'open in new window', the window that's opened is a tiny window in the middle of my screen. I want each window opened to be full-screen, but I can't find how to enable this feature.
Why is this not so by default? The first thing everybody does with such a tiny window is maximize it! (otherwise, nothing in it can be read!) Please help, this drives me nuts! |

I believe Internet Explorer remembers the size of your browser window the last time you closed it. So if you close it when it is maximized, it SHOULD open as maximized the next time you open a new window.

I can answer that immediately : no, it doesn't. It this was the case the problem should've been fixed by now.
Thanks anyway! |

i have the same problem on my laptop. i think that IE isn't saving the changes when i shutdown, cause when i shutdown the laptop it just turns everything off without asking.

Instead of maximizing the window, try manually resizing it then closing it. I *think* IE should remember the size the next time you open a new window.

yup, if you have it maximized it won't remember the size
open 1 window of IE, resize it manually, close it and see if it remembers it if that doesn't work, then the only thing i can think of is that it won't let you save that change in the registry for some reason due to the permissions that your user name has. |

I figured it out, and it's indeed like Mr Chad and giambona say : maximizing and then closing does no good, but if you manually resize it and then close it, it does remember the size. Stupid, but at least it works!
Thanks guys! |

Ok - this is for all you Windows 2000 users out there that have Admin rights. Minimize ALL windows, then launch (or reopen) an Internet Explorer window. Place your mouse in the taskbar area, right-click, and select Tile Windows Vertically (or Horizontally, it doesn't matter.) Again, do this with ONLY a single IE window open. Close IE completely, then open a new IE window. It should be the same nearly-maximized size as before. Leave this window open.
Ok, now do this - Click on Start > Run and type in REGEDT32 and click OK. You need REGEDT32 here, not just REGEDIT. Go to HKCU/Software/Microsoft/Internet Explorer and highlight MAIN in the left pane. In the menu at the top, go to Security > Permissions. Click on Advanced. In this new window, highlight your user name and click on View/Edit. For the Set Value attribute, put a check in the Deny box. Click OK, then Apply, then Ok to close all the windows. Close REDEDT32. That's it. What this does is prevent your user name from altering certain things about IE, including the window size. That's why it's important to do the windows tiling with only ONE windows open before you start editing in REGEDT32. I do this on all my Win2k boxes and have never had a problem. Hope this helps. -OC
