I recently downloaded a file (its porn i'll admit it) and i can't get rid of the damn thing. The problem seems to stem for the file name having illegal characters in it. i am unable ot move, rename, or delete. Normally i would just boot into DOS with its 8 character limit and delete the file there.. but since i have win2k and an NTFS partition i cant do it. Anyone have any ideas? obviously if worse comes to worse i'll have to reformat and repartition back to FAT32.
Thanks, Webhead211 "The man without fear" |

Use the Win2k CD or the Win2k boot disks to boot up, then choose Repair, then choose the Recovery console. This is essentially the equivalent of a DOS prompt. Have a party.
Oh, you'll need the Administrator password to do this. -OC

i've found instead of hitting the delete button, you can drag it to the recycling bin and it'll work

Thats a fun prank to play on people. Windows doesnt recognize certain ASCII charecters so from a dos prompt you create folders on the desktop with names like "porn folder" but when you type it in dos, in place of the space you use the ASCII code for space(I think you hold alt and press 255 but I cant remember). Then everytime they try to delete or rename it they get an error.
Not that I have ever done anything like that before... ![]()

Remove the other files from the folder into a temp folder. Delete the whole folder with the icky file in it.
Create a new folder with the same name as the old folder. Replace the files that were stored in the temp folder. Wash hands. scojo
